First Octane Render test

I've been playing around with Octane Render and decided to post some tests.
Let me know what you guys think.

One major issue I have with OR is the fact that it does not support Subsurface Scattering for the realistic skin look I get with Poser.

That is the biggest reason I haven't switched to OR yet. If you guys have any OR tips on how to fake the SS on skin, please let me know. Also, let me know what you think of the test render (I know there are some flaws on the render, I was just making a quick test).

  1. Octane is good, however I think Subsurface scattering plays a key role in your renders and probably wouldn't be the same without it.

I don't use octane, but I have the same problem with no SS in my render engine. Typically making the skin more glossy can sometimes make up for the lack of sss but it's not the same in my opinion.

  2. Yeah I feel the same way about OR. Can't seem to get satisfied with the skin.

  3. Hey there
Yeah the missing SSS is a bit annoying, but there are ways to fake it, or get at least to results that are looking really good.
One way is that you search for nice Skin settings yourself (there are some good ones for free), or you try out this guys skin settings:

He also have a thread in the otoy forum, where he gives older skin settings for free, but if you like the newest version he wants a small charge for it.
It doesn't compete against the SSS in Poser, but it adds little details to the skin like a light specular reflection.
If I look at your posted picture, I assume it is only a diffuse map with texture, or a glossy map with the specular value very low.
A link where I got my skin settings from:

Of course you can edit and refine it the way you want.
